❓ Why Does Anime HQ Use AniList?

Original Post #5500

At Anime HQ, we rely on AniList as our primary source of anime information. Here’s why — and what it means for you as a user.

🔍 What is AniList?

AniList.co is a comprehensive and trusted anime and manga database. It provides detailed information on:

  • Anime titles (TV, movies, OVA, etc.)

  • Characters and staff

  • Genres, scores, airing schedules

  • User ratings and trends

  • Episode counts and release dates

It’s similar to sites like MyAnimeList or Kitsu, but with a modern API that gives us more flexibility to integrate directly with our own website.

💡 Why Did We Choose AniList?

We chose AniList because:

  • ✅ It offers a robust API — allowing us to automatically import accurate and up-to-date anime info

  • ✅ It supports real-time updates, including episode status, air dates, and scores

  • ✅ It provides high-quality cover images and character data

  • ✅ It’s developer-friendly, which helps us scale features faster for our users

🔁 Is Everything Synced with AniList?

Not quite. While we import core details from AniList (like the title, genres, and cover image), we:

  • 📝 Add custom fields like community watchlist stats and review badges

  • ✅ Manually approve submissions to ensure quality

  • 💬 Allow community contributions and edits through staff review

So while AniList powers our database, Anime HQ makes it personal and community-driven.

📅 Will You Ever Use Other Databases?

Possibly! In the future, we may:

  • Combine AniList data with sources like MyAnimeList or Kitsu

  • Add support for manual-only entries if a title isn’t on AniList

  • Let users link their AniList account for syncing

For now, AniList gives us the best foundation for accuracy, speed, and growth.

Thanks for being part of Anime HQ! If you have questions or spot incorrect data, feel free to post in the Anime Submissions Support forum and we’ll take a look.
